Confessions of a Teacher

I'm linking up with Rowdy in First Grade for some teacher confessions.

1.  I'm secretly thankful that my daughter was sick and I needed to stay home with her today.  Does this make me a bad mother?

2.  Although giving the 27-page end-of-the-year math test is PAINFUL with my students, I'm relieved that I don't have to plan for math for at least a week.

3.  I've written an entire IEP the day of the meeting.  Maybe several times....

4.  I hate home projects and have done several of my own kids this year just to get them over with.

5.  I am seriously burned out right now.  Teaching, blogging, and TpT have become a huge chore that I just don't want to tackle right now.

6.  I cancelled our weekly fluency and spelling this week due to end-of-the-year testing and that made me super happy.

7.  I actually despise assigning, collecting, and checking homework.  I'm constantly debating whether homework is useful or not.

8.  I started the end-of-the-year countdown two months ago.  16 teaching days left!

9.  It's really sad how one person can completely make a job miserable.  :(

10.  Reading to my students is one of my favorite parts of the day.

  2. #9! Seriously! I love #1. I hate curriculum writing, but I was secretly glad to be there so I could escape my 4 challenging friends! Thanks for linking up!

  4. I totally agree with #7 - I hate all things about homework and often debate whether or not it is really beneficial. I wish there was some magical way that I could make it easier for me and more meaningful for the kiddos.

  6. After 27 years of homework I have decided next year I am creating a play log. I dont' think it's beneficial and I hate planning it, checking it, and fighting to get it done and turned in. It's either too much or not enough and too many excuses. I'm focusing my energy in the classroom. The play log I'm creating in my head will be used for the kids to reflect on time spent playing at home. It cannot include any video or electornic game or organized sports. I want them to create, imagine, and play which kids don't do anymore. And I cut out home projects long ago - I never liked them for my own kids!!

  7. Really enjoyed this post because I could relate to many. I have felt like #5 too. And it makes me sad. But I have just been so tired. Creating something has just felt like it would take too much energy. :)
    Thanks!

  8. I am so totally worn out too. My students with special behavior needs have just about used my patience all up. Blogging and such is actually my escape and way to re-energize myself to go back for the next day. 19 days left!

  9. I feel the same way about homework, I'm always wondering if it's necessary? Plus it does take up a lot of our time.

  10. I LOVE the suggestion for a play log above! What a great idea! And I can relate to #9 so much this year that it's ridiculous :( Just hanging in there at this point!!
